Team Washington lost a squeaker to FilCanda in this year`s cup competitions. The matches were tried at 13 a piece and to determine this year`s winner, the number of games won was implemented, which gave Canada a 7 game lead, enough to win this year`s cup. The matches were held at Langley Tennis Centre, with the first round starting at 9AM and the last match finishing at 6PM.
“The matches were very competitive and fun to watch,” said Myrna Alquiza of Team WA. “Not all our women players were able to come, but the guys more than made up for the deficit.”
Members of Team Wa were pooled from players hailing from Marysville, Mt. Lake Terrace, Seattle Renton, Kent, Bellevue and Lakewood. A total of 30 players made the trek including five women.
“We had an abundance of players wanting to play, which is positive,” said Team Wa coordinator Bong Sto. Domingo. “Our young players, and juniors showed us old hackers the future of this series.”
In 2016, at about the same time in August, Team WA will be hosting the cup in Seattle. “We usually are successful each time we play them at home,” said Bong. “The team is confident going to Canada as evident by how close the matches were. Our confidence will be at max when we host them here at our house.”
